Karimah Westbrook as Robin St. Clair
Accomplished actress, writer and producer Karimah Westbrook stars as devoted single parent Grace James in The CW’s hit series “All American,” which has been picked up for season three. Starring alongside Taye Diggs, she plays the mother of South-Central LA football phenom Spencer James, who must navigate two very different worlds when he’s recruited to play football for Beverly Hills High School. Her inspiring and relatable performance earned Westbrook a Black Reel nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Westbrook has captured the attention of audiences with diverse roles in television, film and theater. She has guest starred in many hit shows, including Showtime’s award-winning dramedy “Shameless” and “Masters of Sex,” Freeform’s family series “The Fosters” and AMC’s period drama “Mad Men.” She also appeared in NBC’s award-winning crime drama “Aquarius.” On the big screen, Westbrook can be seen in the film “After We Collided,” the sequel to the box-office hit “After,” based on Anna Todd’s best-selling book series. She starred opposite Matt Damon and Julianne Moore in “Suburbicon”. The project, directed by George Clooney, was inspired by the true story of Daisy Myers, known as the ‘Rosa Parks of the North.’ Westbrook also starred in “American Violet” opposite Alfre Woodard, “The Rum Diary” with Johnny Depp and the indie feature “Bolden,” the reimagined life story of jazz icon Buddy Bolden. Her role in the romantic comedy “American Fusion” required the versatile actress to learn Mandarin Chinese.
Character: Robin St. Clair
African American female in her 30s. A successful but insecure news reporter who struggles with her looks. Robin is heavily influenced by the industry that she works in which only increases her insecurity. After an eye-opening event at her job, Robin begins to question herself and her beliefs. Excited to go into business with her best friends Nia and Regina, Robin finds herself experiencing things she had once merely dreamed of. It is only when the dream becomes a nightmare that Robin finds self acceptance.

African American female in her 30s. An aspiring social media influencer, Regina works very hard to gain a social media following, sometimes taking it a little too far. She is currently living with her boyfriend Damien. Although Damien has never dated a woman with natural hair before, Regina is set on showing him, and the entire world, the ropes. Regina is ecstatic to go into business with her best friends Nia and Robin, and because she’s a natural when it comes to marketing and social media, she plays a huge part in helping Nia get the word out about her product. Regina soon finds all of her dreams coming true only to later learn that they are not her dreams at all.

Character: Nia Birdsong
African American female in her 30s. Newly divorcee, Nia questions her decisions to become independent because of her mother’s antiquated views. Smothered by her mother growing up and encouraged to marry young, Nia has always relied on her mother’s advice and later, her husband for financial support. But after her divorce, Nia’s world is turned upside down and she moves from the suburbs to the slums.
Nia’s goal is to make it on her own, becoming an independent woman and successful inventor. Her dream finally comes true as her greatest invention is a hair formula that will change her life in more ways than one.

African American woman in her middle age. Nia’s over possessive mother who gives the term “tough love” a whole other meaning. She Iis convinced that Nia has made a terrible mistake when she cut her hair, moved out and divorced her husband as she feels every woman needs a man to take care of them. Mrs. Birdsong loves Nia, but has a very difficult time expressing affection or approval of her. Mrs. Birdsong later accepts that her issues with Nia has more to do with her own life versus anyone else’s.

He feels that Regina is portraying a role and a love that he’s not quite sure he’s ready to live up to.
